30 Years at the YMCA

While most entertainers are lucky to enjoy 15 minutes of fame, these dance machines are still going strong, despite their somewhat restrictive costumes. Between 1977 and 2008, Village People sold over 65 million recordings. They defined an era with their catchy disco tunes and graced the cover of Rolling Stone magazine not once but twice with the help of hits like “YMCA,” “Macho Man” and “In the Navy.” They knocked out a major motion picture in 1980, and have been honored with countless awards worldwide. It’s hard to think of any other feat for them to accomplish in their 30th anniversary year, but they found one — Village People were recently honored with their own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
