Donald Trump now has a problem with how President Obama walks Oh, the turmoil President Obama puts Donald Trump through. It's really terrible. There's always something the grump Trump dislikes about the President. President Obama, in Trump's eyes, continues to act "unpresidential."What could it be now?He walked off a plane. The way President Obama runs down the stairs of Air Force 1, hopping & bobbing all the way, is so inelegant and unpresidential. Do not fall!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 23, 2014Oh, the pain...

  • Marking a Scientific Milestone, and Celebrating a Gay Hero, in the HIV Epidemic

Thirty years ago, in an April 23, 1984 press conference in Washington, D.C., the world learned that American microbiologist Robert C. Gallo and his colleagues at the National Cancer Institute had proved that a retrovirus first seen by their counterparts at Institut Pasteur in Paris was the cause of AIDS. Secretary of Health and Human Services Margaret Heckler also announced that day that the Gallo team had created a blood test to detect antibodies produced by the body to fight infection. With it we finally had the ability to know who was infected, to screen donated blood and to track the spread of the virus. By the time of the announcement, 4,177 AIDS cases had been reported in the United[…]

Matt Bomer Is A Married Man Matt Bomer has been keeping a secret. The actor made a major revelation in an interview with Details for the magazine's May 2014 issue. Apparently, Bomer and partner Simon Halls married back in 2011. Bomer came out as gay the following year when he thanked Halls while receiving an award for his work to fight HIV/AIDS in 2012. Talk of their marriage arose while he was discussing his role in the upcoming HBO movie directed by Ryan Murphy, "The Normal Heart," about a gay man dying of AIDS. "I wouldn't have a lot of the rights I have today if it wasn't for people like Larry," he said, referring to the play's original writer, Larry Kramer. "I just wanted to[…]

  • Gonzalo Orquin's 'Si, Quiero' Features Gay Kiss Photo Series Condemned By The Vatican

A stunning yet Vatican-condemned photo series featuring same-sex couples in passionate embraces inside Roman Catholic churches will get a new life in New York. The Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay & Lesbian Art will display Rome-based artist Gonzalo Orqui's "Si, quiero" photographs in its Wooster Street Window Gallery. In 2013, Orqui had planned to include the photographs in an exhibition titled "Trialogo," which was scheduled to open at Rome's Galleria L'Opera. The photos made international headlines when Vatican reportedly shot down Orqui's plan, and sent the gallery a notice threatening legal action. Nonetheless, the colorful shots are a natural fit for Leslie-Lohman, according to Museum Director Hunter O’Hanian. "We selected this work because it was so simple and beautiful," O’Hanian wrote in[…]

  • Men and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance

My boyfriend spent much of this spring rebuilding an '80s Suzuki 450L motorcycle for me by hand in the front yard of his house. The process of its construction was part of the prize: I was treated to many days of conversation while sitting on a chair nearby in the shade, playing Pearl Jam and Neil Young for us on my iPhone as I watched him work. Admittedly, I was also watching his muscles glistening with perspiration, bulging under a grease stained tank top, his sexy thick brows flexing, the essential perfection of his goofy grin when he thought of a joke to tell me. I am very much a woman of physical passions as well as those of the[…]

  • OHIO: State Approves Language For Ballot Measure To Repeal Marriage Ban

Yesterday organizers of a ballot measure campaign to repeal Ohio's same-sex marriage ban were granted permission to begin gathering petition signatures. The Ohio Ballot Board agreed Tuesday that the proposed "Freedom to Marry and Religious Freedom Amendment" contains a single constitutional amendment, clearing the way for the effort to move forward. The updated amendment includes language requiring that all legally valid marriages be treated equally under the law. It also keeps clergy from being forced to perform a same-sex marriage. The group FreedomOhio is seeking to repeal and replace Ohio's 2004 prohibition on gay marriage.RELATED: Last week a federal judge ruled that Ohio must recognize out-of-state marriages. The ruling was stayed pending an appeal.

  • Oregon Gay Marriage Ban Case To Be Heard By Federal Judge

By JONATHAN J. COOPER, The Associated PressSALEM, Ore. (AP) — A federal judge in Oregon is ready to hear arguments about the state's voter-approved ban on same-sex marriage, but no one will be in court to defend the measure.Four gay and lesbian couples have filed suit asking a judge to declare the ban unconstitutional and allow same-sex couples to wed. They also want an order that same-sex marriages performed in other states must be recognized in Oregon. The state attorney general, Democrat Ellen Rosenblum, has declined to defend the ban, saying there's no legal justification for it, so lawyers on both sides of the case essentially agree. Nobody will be defending the law before U.S. District Judge Michael McShane on[…]

  • Most Atrocious Political Ad Of 2014?

Think Progress wonders if this is the "most atrocious political ad of 2014." If you want to run for office some day, you better not believe that everyone is entitled to legal counsel before the government locks them away. Or, at least, that’s the message sent by a new Republican Governors Association ad targeting Vincent Sheheen, a former prosecutor who now represents civil and criminal clients in private practice. Sheheen is a Democratic candidate for governor against incumbent Nikki Haley (R-SC). The RGA’s ad attacks Sheheen for “defend[ing] violent criminals” and ends with the tagline “Vincent Sheheen protects criminals not South Carolina.” The implication of this ad is that Sheheen is somehow unfit for public office because he once provided[…]

  • Republican Activists Push Party On Gay Marriage

LAS VEGAS (AP) — As bans against gay marriage crumble and public opinion on the issue shifts rapidly, some Republicans are pushing the party to drop its opposition to same-sex unions, part of a broader campaign to get the GOP to appeal to younger voters by de-emphasizing social issues. This month, the Nevada Republican party dropped statements on marriage from its party platform, making it the second state party in the nation to do so after Indiana's GOP quietly jettisoned its plank in 2012. A gay-rights group last week launched a $1 million campaign to get the national party to remove from its platform a definition of marriage as between a man and a woman, while a group of major Republican[…]

Donohue: Let's Make Atheists Impotent "Militant atheists have a new goal: they object to students hearing the name of God in the Pledge of Allegiance. No atheist has to say the Pledge, or utter the dreaded words, 'under God'  - it is optional - but that is not enough: they want to stop others from saying it. The American Humanist Association, and its ilk, are not satisfied to opt out of saying the Pledge of Allegiance. They want the government to silence everyone from saying it. We do not have to worry about the Taliban in the United States—religious fanatics are properly impotent. But we do have to worry about their secular counterpart—atheist fanatics. It is their impotence that we must secure." - Catholic League[…]

Tweet Of The Day - Rachel Held Evans Evans, a Christian writer, was tweeting from a panel discussion held at the Southern Baptist Convention's Ethics & Religious Liberty forum. Here's the "ironic" history of how the Southern Baptist Convention came to be: Largely comprised of slaveholders, the gathering at the First Baptist Church of Augusta, Georgia, in May 1845 publicly pled their case. Slavery was biblical. Therefore abolition was sinful, and Baptists of the North were wrong to oppose slavery. Abolitionists of the North were responsible for the Baptist division; southern Baptists had been patient with the agitators, but enough was enough. Pledging allegiance to slavery, they vowed “we will never interfere with what is Caesar’s” (a biblical allusion implying it was their moral and legal responsibility to[…]

  • Lily Allen - Sheezus

TIME has a review: Lily Allen’s upcoming album, Sheezus, might poke fun at Kanye West, but on the recently premiered title track, she turns her attention to another crop of royals: Lorde, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga don’t just get name-checked on “Sheezus” — Allen’s search-engine-optimized opinions of her pop-star peers make up the song’s entire hook. At first, the “Hard Out Here” singer doesn’t exactly sound like she’s full of praise (except for Lorde, who’s “about to slay you”), but listen closely — this is no diss track. If anything, Allen wants her ladies to unite in bringing their A-game: “Second best will never cut it for the divas / Give me that crown, bitch / I[…]
