  • Queer New World: Radically Creating And Existing Together

This is the twenty-fifth and final installment in an ongoing series that explores drag culture and the nightlife scene in Brooklyn, N.Y. Over the past several years, following the large-scale exodus of artists across the East River and into northern Brooklyn, those engaged in drag culture in this outer borough have created a new, queer world entirely their own. Accompanied by a larger movement to understand drag culture outside of the pageant circuit, many individuals engaged in the drag community in this borough approach drag culture through a nontraditional lens of "alternative" drag or performance art, enabled largely by the malleable and queer nature of this part of New York.Over the past six months, HuffPost Gay Voices Associate Editor James[…]

  • How A Gay Ugandan Teen Was Thrown Out Of His Home, Arrested And Tortured

By Rob Watson | The Next Family A few weeks ago, I told the story of a teen named Corey who was driven from his birth home when his parents found out he was gay, and into the arms of a loving home that rescued him. His unique story was read widely and shared by tens of thousands of people. Sadly, the thing that made Corey’s story unique was not that it happened, but that it happened and he got rescued. Many other teens are expelled from their homes and quickly fall into drug abuse and prostitution.A lucky few of them find help through homeless services and by a growing awareness that they exist and need help. • Jesus' Sex Life on the 'Down Low'

While many biblical scholars have ignored non-canonical texts like the gnostic and apocryphal gospels that suggested that Jesus had a wife, they are no longer ignoring the 2012 discovery of an ancient, faded fragment of papyrus that makes just such a suggestion. According to this month's New York Times article "Papyrus Referring to Jesus' Wife Is More Likely Ancient Than Fake, Scientists Say," the document is known as the "Gospel of Jesus's Wife." However, this discovery disrupts modern Christianity's depiction of Jesus in many ways. The church doesn't want to say that Jesus had a wife, because the fact that he spent all his time evangelizing with 12 male disciples seems to indicate that he wasn't a family man. Also, the[…]
