Transgender "Disorder" Reclassified

The newest edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) will replace the diagnostic term “Gender Identity Disorder” with the term “Gender Dysphoria,” the Associated Press reports.
The new edition is welcomed by transgender activist that have been lobbying to have the term "disorder," a term that carries an obvious negative connotation, changed for two decades since the last edition was published.
“The label of mental defectiveness really places a burden on trans people to continually prove our competence in our affirmed roles,” said Kelley Winters, a transgender advocate and scholar.
